Summary from Goodreads:
It's been six months since Ashlyn Daniels was kicked out of her home. Six months since she stood up to her abusive stepfather and got a busted rib—and seeing all her things set ablaze in a backyard bonfire—for her trouble.Never going back. She doesn't need trouble...especially if trouble is tattoo artist Lane Garrett, who's six-feet-plus of tattooed hotness and a complete ass.

Lane has spent the last decade fighting to support his family. To protect them. There's no room for romance, even with a fragile (yet amusingly feisty) stunner...even if she somehow manages to invade his world and his heart.

But while some secrets are as visible as ink on the skin, others must remain hidden at all costs... Add it on Goodreads.

Rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

I've read Life Unaware so I know what I could expect from Cole Gibsen. But damn Written on My Heart is so much more than I expected. There was so much of everything. There was angst, drama, tension-filled romance, hot tattooed hero, amazing heroine and a great plot.

I love that Ashlyn is such a strong heroine. She's not sassy nor does she have a fiery personality but her strength comes from her vulnerability. She sees herself as someone stupid and worthless because her stepdad reminds her every time that she's that kind of person. I hated it. I hated how her stepdad could be so heartless. Ashlyn lived in constant fear of him and I just wanted to reach into the book and hug her and tell her that the guy's a total douche and just plain evil and if he can't see how amazing she is then he's missing out on something good.
I love seeing the progress Ashlyn's character took. She went from the girl who thinks of herself as weak and full of insecurities to someone who sees herself as one who, even broken, can be an inspiration to someone else. I don't think I've ever rooted for the heroine as much as I did with Ashlyn. She's selfless and resilient. Her character was well-written and felt very real.

Lane too is a great character. He's made a mistake when he was young and now he's willing to do whatever it takes to do the right thing. I love him for being protective and caring. But most of all, I love his devotion to Harper. He's taught me that even though we suck at life most of the time, we can always make it better. I just wish there was more scenes with Harper present. She plays a huge part in Lane's life and in the characters' decisions and it feels like I barely know her. Also, I would have liked more interactions between Harper and Ashlyn.

Written on My Heart is a beautifully written story that made me smile, angry, swoon and heartbroken. And after learning that the author personally experienced some of what Ashlyn did, I applaud her for writing such an emotional, edgy and heart-wrenching book. I can't imagine how hard it must have been so I admire Cole greatly.

I received an e-arc as part of the blog tour.

Cole Gibsen first realized she different when, in high school, she was still reading comic books while the other girls were reading fashion magazines.
It was her love of superheroes that first inspired her to pick up a pen. Her favorite things to write about are ordinary girls who find themselves in extraordinary situations.
